Bob Graham Biography

Artist Bob Graham is quoted in American Artist Magazine, "My best work arises from doing a color study on location and taking photographs of the scene.   The color study helps me remember the correct light and dark relationships and the photograph allows me the time in the studio to compose a painting with content that has meaning for me.   After a successful 25 year career painting portraits and murals Graham has turned his talents to the western landscape with his characteristic zeal and love of art.    I lived in Moab, Utah and Taos NM for a while, painting around those areas.   I decided I liked being off alone painting any way I wanted.   The freedom of expression, especially with color was exciting.

Bob was born in Canton, Texas in 1947.   He attended college in Texas for 4 years studying his own curriculum of art.   Traveling north after college Bob settled in Provincetown Ma. in 1970.   There he studied with the famous Impressionist painter Henry Hensche.   Hensche was the student of Charles Webster Hawthorne himself the student of William Merritt Chase.   Bob started teaching in 1974 and lived and worked in New Orleans for 20 years.   His paintings and techniques have been published in several books and articles and he has won numerous prestigious awards.
