Cheyne Walk Brasserie are pleased to announce the launch of their Live Jazz Soirees, to be held in the Salon every Wednesday evening from 6.30pm, boasting an eclectic mix of local and international artists provided by the world renowned Jazz Club, Ronnie Scotts.

Cheyne Walk Brasserie has also teamed up with the artists, Theresa Jones and Bob Graham, for a 6-week exhibition of contemporary paintings commencing on 30 th November 2005. The exhibition explores the relationship between Jazz and Art in New Orleans. In particular, Theresa and Bob tell the story of the French Quarter Street Musicians prior to the advent of Hurricane Katrina which hit the city at the end of August.

Theresa, from St. Ives, Cornwall, had been living in New Orleans, painting and studying the Jazz musicians in the months preceding Katrina. Her in depth understanding of form, character and colour, the improvising nature of the musicians themselves and the sheer energy and feeling elicited in their music has been moodily expressed within her paintings. The life of New Orleans, as it was, is captured within her work, from the vibrant 'Jazz at Chartres" to the dark atmospheric undertones of the clarinet in 'Blues Charmer". The unusual form of vignettes provide an insight into life in the French Quarter before the devastating events, which saw her, and most of her works, evacuated from her studios the day prior to Katrina's arrival.

An Auction of some of their pieces will be held on the evening of December 7th, with proceeds going to the musicians who have lost their livelihood in New Orleans. The work of Theresa Jones and Bob Graham can be viewed online at; www.neworleansjazz.org .
