Theresa Jones was living and working in New Orleans, painting images of the street musicians, when tragedy struck. Hurricane Katrina hit New Orleans and devastated the area. The rest is history. Fortunately most of her paintings were saved. Ronnie Scott’s loved her work and have since supported her. Theresa has opened a temporary gallery for the summer in St Ives.

‘Art on the Horizon’ is a virtual art gallery in the new internet phenomenon called Second Life which is a rapidly growing online virtual environment pioneering new ways of communicating, interacting and remotely collaborating through the internet. Started in 2003, there are now over 8 million registered users and growing at a rate of 10,000 new members per day. It is expected to reach a staggering 25 million by March 2008. It will allow Theresa’s work to reach a new global interactive audience.

The launch of this virtual gallery in Second Life is another timely reminder of New Orleans on the 2nd anniversary of Hurricane Katrina.

New Business Horizons has created the ‘Blue Horizon’ virtual business park which offers companies and organisations the opportunity to enter Second Life in a timely and cost effective manner to experience the environment and explore the business benefits of Second Life. The business park is designed along the lines of a typical real world business environment that houses many diverse companies, a conference centre, beach bar, library and the ‘Art on the Horizon’ gallery.

Ronnie Scott’s Club, the premier jazz venue in the UK, is commemorating Katrina by supporting Theresa and the launch of the ‘Art on the Horizon’ virtual art gallery. In the newly refurbished members lounge area, a large plasma screen will display live footage from both Second Life and the real launch party in St Ives.

Staff from Phoenix Media will be demonstrating Second Life and will be on hand to explain about the art exhibition and virtual worlds in general.
